Drury SIFE World Cup competition begins in New York

Drury University will defend its Stu-dents in Free Enterprise World Cup Champion title April 8 in New York City. |ret||ret||tab|

The regional competition pits SIFE teams from more than 20 colleges, with the winners advancing to the 2002 SIFE USA National Exposition May 12-14 in Kansas City.|ret||ret||tab|

SIFE encourages students to apply classroom lessons to real-life situations through well-designed projects. Many of the projects are educational outreach oriented.|ret||ret||tab|

DU SIFE's 34 members will present the top 10 projects of the 2001-2002 school year, highlighted by YEA!, an online resource center for teachers; and Smal-Mart, a campus convenience store operated by SIFE students.|ret||ret||tab|

Another project, "Diversity Univer-sity," teaches fourth graders the importance of international business practices.|ret||ret||tab|

Teams are judged on project effectiveness during a 24-minute presentation. The judging criteria are creativity and innovation, results of education programs, success in utilizing resources, and documentation of activities.|ret||ret||tab|

The 21 regional champs will advance to the second annual SIFE World Cup in Amsterdam this September.|ret||ret||tab|

Drury's SIFE team was named the first SIFE international champion.|ret||ret||tab|

"Having had the pleasure last year of winning the World Championship in London, I am confident we will do fine in New York City," said Robert Wyatt, PhD, an adviser for Drury's team.|ret||ret||tab|

Wyatt and Charles Taylor, PhD, serve as team advisers and both were named Sam W. Walton Free Enterprise Fellows in recognition of their leadership and support of Drury's SIFE program.|ret||ret||tab|

A SIFE Career Opportunity Fair coincides with the competition. The fair will enable Drury students to discuss career and internship opportunities with corporate representatives from New York's business community.|ret||ret||tab|
