Drury plans weeklong commemoration for Sept. 11 victims

Posted online
Students at Drury University will have several events Sept. 11-15 to remember the individuals who died Sept. 11 in terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pa.

During the morning of Sept. 11, the bell at Drury’s Stone Chapel will ring in honor of those who died in the attacks. A noon ceremony in the Findlay Student Center Circle on the north end of Drury Lane will mark the fifth anniversary of the attacks.

At 7 p.m. Sept. 12, an arts-themed event with short-story and poetry readings will be held at Drury’s Diversity Center.

At 11 a.m. Sept. 14, the film “The War Within” will be screened in Clara Thompson Hall. The independent film was a 2006 American Spirit nominee. It is the story of a fictional member of the Sept. 11 attacks who experiences a crisis of conscience.

At noon Sept. 15, there will be an international picnic in front of the Findlay Student Center, with an emphasis on global cooperation and hope. Sept. 11-themed art will be on display, and student music groups are competing to perform during the event. [[In-content Ad]]
