Drury, MSU provide tax-filing assistance

Posted online
Students at Drury University and Missouri State University are using their classroom skills to help southwest Missouri residents file tax returns.

Under the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, both schools will provide free assistance to low- or moderate-income, disabled and senior citizen taxpayers.

Taxpayers should bring all W-2s, 1099s, Social Security cards of dependents and copies of their 2004 return.

In the second-floor computer lab of Drury's Breech School of Business Administration at the corner of Central Street and Drury Lane, sessions are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Saturday through March 11.

MSU will host sessions 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Saturday through March 11 and again on April 1 and 8 in Glass Hall Room 467 on campus.

The Mid-Town Library will hold similar events 10 a.m.-3 p.m. this Saturday and on Feb. 25. The Library Center will provide assistance 1 p.m.-7 p.m. April 17.

All returns will be filed electronically, unless a manual return is required by the IRS. All taxpayers must be available to sign the appropriate forms in the case of joint returns.
