Sweeney and her work will be honored March 31, which has been designated “Karen Sweeney Day” at Drury University.
According to a Drury University news release, the day will include an 11 a.m. luncheon in the Findlay Student Center Commons featuring some of Sweeney’s favorite foods. Following the meal, guests will gather in the ballroom for a ceremony that will dedicate the offices housing the dean of students office and study abroad program as the Karen Sweeney Suites for Student Affairs.
Also on March 31, a reception in Sweeney’s honor will be held 3–5 p.m. in the Downunder, a recently renovated gathering place in the lower level of Findlay Student Center. Alumni and community members are invited to join staff and students at both events. Drury University also has established the Karen Sweeney Emerging Leaders Fund in honor and recognition of Sweeney’s impact on generations of Drury Students. The fund will provide scholarships and grants to support promising students.
In 2005, Sweeney was named one of SBJ’s Most Influential Women.
