The Drury University team took home fourth place out of 155 groups competing in the 2013 Enactus U.S. National Exposition on May 23 in Kansas City.
The Missouri State University, Southwest Baptist University and Ozarks Technical Community College teams took regional honors, but didn’t place at the national event.
Enactus – formerly Students in Free Enterprise until a
late 2012 name change – crowned Flagler College of St. Augustine, Fla., the winner of the competition, followed by Brigham Young University-Hawaii of Laie, Hawaii, and Blue Ridge Community College of Weyers Cave, Va., according to a news release.
The private university's 16th consecutive appearance at the national event, the Drury team won the Enactus National Exposition in 2001, 2003 and 2005, and went on to win the World Cup in 2001 and 2003.
“We are extremely proud of the work the Enactus students at Drury have done this year,” Drury Enactus Director Kaitlyn Vaughn said in the release. “We’ve had an enormous impact on the individuals and organizations we’ve worked with this year.”
The team delivered presentations on Project Source, a corporate responsibility initiative with Edward Jones Investments for completing service projects addressing worldwide needs; EcoScore, a mobile application created for Apple devices designed to assist area residents in measuring water usage; and Art Inspired, a program crafted via an Abilities First grant whereby the Enactus team created a business in downtown Springfield to help people with development disabilities gain employment, according to
Springfield Business Journal archives.
