Drury University's Breech School of Business Administration received initial accreditation of its business degree program from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the school announced Wednesday.
Fewer than 5 percent of business schools worldwide have earned the accreditation, according to a Drury news release.
Business programs must undergo internal review and evaluation to receive accreditation, the release said, including developing and implementing a plan to meet 21 quality standards related to faculty qualification, resource management, faculty-student interaction and commitment to continuous improvement. AACSB sent business-school deans to the Drury campus multiple times to evaluate the school.
"AACSB accreditation represents the highest achievement for an educational institution and its college of business," AACSB International President and CEO John J. Fernandes said in the release. "The faculty, directors and administrative staff of Drury are to be commended for their dedication and commitment to continuous improvement, and for their role in earning initial accreditation.”
Bill Rohlf, interim director of the Breech School, and Charles Taylor, Drury vice president of academic affairs, will represent the school at the AACSB International Conference later this month in California.
Michael Shirley will take over as Breech's director July 1, replacing Robert Wyatt, who left the school to become president of Coker College in South Carolina.
