A new hire at Drury University will oversee annual giving when she starts in September.
Marie Muhvic was named executive vice president of university advancement, according to a news release. She comes to Drury from Fairfield, Connecticut-based Sacred Heart University, where she served as president for its community theater foundation and chief development officer for its college of business and technology.
Muhvic was brought on to oversee all aspects of advancement, Drury spokesperson Mike Brothers said. She'll oversee 11 employees in the department, he added. Wayne Chipman, who has served as executive vice president for university advancement since 2016, is moving to the role of senior vice president, Brothers said. Additionally, Muhvic will work closely with Judy Thompson, who's currently listed on Drury's website as acting executive vice president for university advancement.
Muhvic was one of five finalists for the job, Brothers said.
“Marie’s understanding of private college fundraising, her track record of success and the competitive edge she honed as a student-athlete in her own college career will serve us well we as move ahead with key fundraising priorities at Drury," President Tim Cloyd said in the release, referring to Muhvic's time playing soccer at the NCAA level.
Muhvic joins the university as it nears completion of the first phase of a comprehensive campaign for scholarships, financial aid and new campus facilities. The phase included more than $27 million raised for the C.H. “Chub” O’Reilly Enterprise Center and Breech School of Business Administration.
In her position, Muhvic will direct corporate and foundation relations, major and principal gifts, prospect research, alumni relationships and stewardship, according to the release. She'll serve on the president's senior leadership team.
“I was overwhelmed with the grace, class, dedication and intense passion and loyalty to Drury University and the Springfield community from the trustees, alumni, President Cloyd, the search committee and everyone I interacted with on the faculty and staff when visiting Drury,” Muhvic said in the release. "It is evident the university impacts students in life-changing ways and there is a special bond amongst the alumni and supporters."
