The motor vehicle and driver's license office in Republic is among the latest round of offices put out for bids by the Missouri Department of Revenue.
Gov. Jay Nixon is in the process of bidding out all 183 of the state's license offices.
"For too long, the management of a local license office was awarded to someone solely because of their political affiliation," Nixon said in a news release. "Under this new process, individuals and organizations will be able to submit their plans on how to run these offices, and the best proposals will be chosen based on their merits."
The other five offices in the latest round are in Arnold, Cape Girardeau, Olivette, West County in Ballwin and Northside in St. Louis.
The Republic office had $92,870 in estimated fiscal 2008 transactions and $288,531 in estimated fiscal 2008 processing fees, according to the release. Other local offices that have been bid out so far include the 1534 S. Glenstone Ave. and 3061 S. Fremont Ave. locations in Springfield.
Bidders have five weeks to submit their plans on managing the offices. Criteria include customer service, financial stability, employee qualifications and office security/accessibility.
