A downtown vegan restaurant that previously shared space with an ice cream shop is closing.
Brunch Box, located at 211 E. Walnut St., will have its last day on June 29, said owner Rachel Fair.
Fair said myriad factors led to the closure, including her reentry into the nursing workforce and her children's educational plans. Prices, too, have gone up, she said.
"It's been harder for us to source some of our specialty ingredients. I'd say a lot of our ingredients have gone up by a third. Raising our prices would make our products pretty exclusionary," she said. "We've achieved a lot and accomplished a lot. Now we're all very excited to see what's next in store for all of us."
Fair, who previously operated Whipped Cream & Other Delights, launched Brunch Box in summer 2023. The restaurant previously shared space with ice cream shop Sweet Emotion, which closed late last year.
Brunch Box's vegan menu includes sandwiches, tortilla-based dishes and breakfast, and a variety of coffee drinks, such as the Sonic the Hedgehog and G.I. Joe, also are served, according to its website. Vegan cakes also are made to order.
The restaurant’s closure was announced in a Facebook post this morning.
