City officials and downtown developers turn the first dirt Aug. 7 at the site of College Station, the 135,000-square-foot mixed-use development to be built on a city block bordered by Olive and College streets and Campbell and Market avenues. The $12 million development will be anchored by a 14-screen Hollywood Theaters cinema set to open next summer.

Meanwhile, Carson-Mitchell Inc. crews begin to make visible progress on the east side of the neighboring Heer’s Car Park. The $6 million, five-story parking garage will provide overflow parking for College Station and the redeveloped Heer’s Tower, for which negotiations are ongoing with city officials and St. Louis developer McGowan|Walsh.
