The Outland music venue and bar complex is changing up operations as it prepares to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The downtown establishment announced via Facebook plans to transition its Front of House Lounge to Odyssey Lounge, an all-ages venue with open mic, karaoke, movie nights and DJ sets. With the change, officials are adding an ice cream parlor and pizza shop called EMOtion, a play on the emo and pop punk musical genres.
Officials said the shop would be an "outside/inside walkup spot serving amazing sweet treats and pizza from The Big Slice."
The Odyssey Lounge is scheduled to open Oct. 9, with EMOtion slated to launch "in the coming weeks," according to the Facebook post.
The two other venues at the South Avenue complex, The Outland and Outland Ballroom, are reopening in phases after cosmetic and technical upgrades. Opening dates were not announced in the post.
The changes come after The Outland changed ownership this summer, with Kevin Dunn of Springfield artist management and development company The Varakus Group taking over operations. The establishment has been closed for months amid the pandemic.
"It’s been an extremely tiring year and we are blown away by this community and how you stood behind us," officials said in the Facebook post. "Us opening means some changes while we navigate COVID and how we are going to function."
