Downstream opens second hotel

The Downstream Casino Resort has opened its second hotel, the roughly $50 million 152-room Kappa Tower, in Miami, Okla., which includes the Nee Spa and other amenities. The opening has added about 100 new permanent jobs at the resort, and the hotel/spa expansion project created 400 construction jobs this year, giving a boost to the Tri-State Region's economy, according to a news release.

Kappa Tower's amenities are designed to expand Downstream's primary market reach beyond the current 100-mile radius, according to Sean Harrison, public relations manager for Downstream Casino Resort. The new tower sits side by side with Downstream's original 222-room hotel tower, now named Osotouy, bringing the total room count to 374.

Design and architecture for the Phase II development was provided by JCJ Architecture, of Hartford, Conn., and construction contractor was Manhattan Construction Group of Tulsa, Okla.

The tower comprises 134 standard rooms, 12 single-room suites, four dual-room suites, two 1,500-square-foot hospitality suites, a large dining area and living room, additional meeting space and bar, the five-room Nee Spa and salon, and an indoor swimming pool with indoor/outdoor patio and lounge area. Restaurant additions include the Lover's Leap Bar & Lounge in the Kappa lobby, the Ma-Ko-Sha`coffee shop and bakery, and a new, larger location for the Buffalo Grille, which includes areas for private and outdoor dining.

With the expansion, Downstream's total investment in the property now sits at about $361 million, according to Joplin Tri-State Business Journal archives.[[In-content Ad]]
