Dow hits 18,000 for first time ever

Posted online
Christmas came a couple of days early for Wall Street investors - the Dow hit a record high of 18,000 on Tuesday, reports CNNMoney.

Tuesday's jump is attributed to the news that the U.S. economy grew an impressive 5 percent in the third quarter, its strongest quarter since 2003, the report states. Low interest rates, inflation and high corporate earnings also contributed to the increase.

The Dow and the S&P 500 are expected to finish the year strong; the Dow is up 9 percent and the S&P 500 is up 13 percent for the year.
