The chapter received the donation Aug. 28 from the Cruse Trust; the donors said they wanted to assist the organization in moving debt-free to its new facility, according to a Red Cross news release. The donors have asked to remain anonymous.
The Red Cross will move to the former Handcrafted Hardwoods building, 1545 N. West Bypass. The new space is about triple the size of the organization’s current 7,800-square-foot facility at 1835 E. Chestnut Expressway. Costs for the building, property and remodeling total $2.45 million, not including moving expenses, signage or phone installation.
The move to a larger space will help spread the group’s cramped operations, expand its services and nurture inter-agency relationships that were forged during hurricane relief efforts last year, according to the release.
A grand opening is set for 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Oct. 10.
