Dollar Tree sales rise less than expected

Dollar Tree, the biggest U.S. discount chain, reported lower-than-estimated quarterly sales.

The company's fourth-quarter sales rose 1.3 percent, below the 2.1 percent rise expected by analysts polled by research firm Consensus Metrix.

Net sales came in at $5.4 billion, up from $2.5 billion last year.

Net income was $229 million, an increase from $206.6 million a year earlier.
