Dollar General's sales miss estimates

Damaged by lower food prices, increased competition and the reduction of food stamp coverage in several states, discount retailer Dollar General reported lower-than-expected quarterly sales.

Net income rose to $306.52 million from $282.35 million.

Sales were up 5.8 percent to $5.39 billion, missing the average analyst estimate of $5.5 billion.
