Dollar General's quarterly sales rise 7%

Dollar General, the No.2 U.S. discount retailer by store count, posted sales of $5.07 billion during the third quarter, a 7.3 percent increase from last year.

Analysts, however, expected revenue of $5.09 billion.

Net income rose to $253.3 million, or 86 cents per share,  from $236.3 million, or 78 cents per share, a year earlier.
