Dollar General ups bid for Family Dollar

The so-called dollar-store wars heated up early Monday when Dollar General upped its bid for Family Dollar to $80 a share and offered to divest up to 1,500 stores if needed to get the deal cleared by regulators.

The all-cash proposal is $1.50 a share higher its Aug. 18 bid and beats Dollar Tree's $74.50 per share offer made last month, according to USA Today. Dollar General's deal is valued at roughly $9.1 billion, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Dollar General said that if Family Dollar management fails to work with them, they would take the deal directly to the company's shareholders.
