Dollar General Corp. is seeking to attract more high-income shoppers with a new store concept.
Dubbed Popshelf, the concept would focus on items such as party supplies, home decor and beauty products. Items will be priced mostly under $5, though company officials said the stores are meant to appeal to women from households that earn as much as $125,000 a year.
"The need for this store is very relevant now and maybe increasingly so," said Emily Taylor, Dollar General's executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, noting shoppers like the idea of "treating themselves without the guilt associated with overspending."
