Dollar General goes hostile with Family Dollar bid

Dollar General said on Wednesday that it was taking its $9.1 billion offer for Family Dollar directly to shareholders.

The move would further complicate an agreement between Family Dollar and Dollar Tree to sell the company for $8.5 billion. A hostile bid is likely to, at the very least, delay any deal between Family Dollar and Dollar Tree, according to the New York Times.

Dollar General is offering to buy all Family Dollar shares for $80 each.
