Posted online
Guy A. Wilkerson of Hood-Rich Inc. is the structural engineer for the new museum and pavilion at Doling Park for the Springfield-Greene County Parks Department. Norman Goth of Smith-Goth Engineers Inc. is the mechanical and electrical engineer. Jack Hood of Hood-Rich is the project architect, and Hood-Rich’s Jana Funk, also an architect, is the interior designer. R. E. Smith Construction of Joplin is the general contractor for the 1,136-square-foot museum building, which will be constructed on the site of the old Doling Park skating rink. The building will house historic items from Doling Park’s past, and it will have public restrooms, a ticketing area and archive storage. A large stone wall on the west elevation was preserved and stabilized as a backdrop to a large lawn area that is fenced with a 6-foot wrought iron fence. The entire area will be lit with period light fixtures that blend with existing fixtures within the park. The museum entrance has a sweeping curved ramp and steps from the adjoining parking lot. The facility, which will be available for large public outdoor events, has an estimated cost of $828,000 and is to be finished Jan. 20.
