Doe Run reducing mine production, cutting jobs

Posted online
The Doe Run Co. announced Tuesday it would cut lead production by roughly 10 percent, effectively immediately.

The St. Louis company, which operates mines in the southeast part of the state known as the Lead Belt, will reduce annual production by 20,000 tons of its chief product in addition to smaller amounts of zinc and copper, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

Reduced production means 75 jobs also will be cut from the company payrolls. Officials cited reduced metal prices and increased costs as driving the decisions.
