Do you really need a 401(k) to retire? People over 50 without one weigh in

While 59% of Americans have access to a 401(k) plan, only 32% are investing in a plan, according to an article by Real Simple magazine.

And even though about 51% of employers offer 401(k) matching, some workers over 50 years old are ditching the savings plans.

“As a 56-year-old entrepreneur who has worked in both the corporate world and the private sector, I can tell you that I personally was able to retire comfortably by building assets outside of a 401(k) or other retirement accounts,” says Anita Petty, an author on the retirement topic.
