The birthplace of America's favorite cartoon mouse is about to get a facelift.
The Kansas City Business Journal reports a Kansas City nonprofit group, Thank You Walt Disney Inc., is looking to convert the historic Laugh-O-Gram Studios into an interactive museum and digital production studio. The original home of animator Walt Disney, the building is widely regarded as the birthplace of Mickey Mouse, but over time has fallen into disrepair.
Plans call for converting the first floor into a theater where historic cartoons produced by the Laugh-O-Gram team will be screened, and a section of the building's second floor where Disney and his fellow animators worked will be restored as much as possible to original conditions.
