Disney bets $1 billion on technology to track visitors

Posted online
The Most Magical Place on Earth is putting the wonderful world of Disney into park visitors’ hands. Or around their wrists, to be accurate.

According to Bloomberg Businessweek, visitors to Disney theme parks can now strap on MyMagic+ electronic wristbands. These MagicBands work as hotel keys, admission tickets and, of course, credit or debit cards. Just tap the band against a sensor to pay for merchandise or food.

Disney states the MagicBands help parks know when to add staff at rides or restaurants, what merchandise to restock and how many costumed characters should be out working the crowds. Encrypted guest data can also alert staff to someone’s name and birthday, allowing them to surprise your child with a personal birthday greeting.
