Disney begins filming 'Star Wars' in Abu Dhabi

Filming is underway in Abu Dhabi for the first “Star Wars” movie to be made under the banner of The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS).

The movie, which is expected to be released in December 2015, was made possible by the $4.05 billion 2012 purchase of Lucasfilm, which produced the first six films in the famous movie franchise. Star Wars creator and Lucasfilm founder George Lucas is serving as a consultant on the seventh movie in the series.

The names of the cast members are expected to be released soon. So far, only secondary scenes have been shot, according to Bloomberg.
