Dish, DirecTV hike prices for 2014

Satellite TV providers Dish Network and DirecTV are raising their rates in the new year.

DirecTV is boosting its prices by an average 4.4 percent, up from last year's hike of 3.2 percent. Dish said it would hike fees by 5.5 percent next year, following a 16.3 percent increase at the beginning of 2013, according to CNNMoney.

Subscribers can expect Dish Network's new rates to go into effect on Jan. 17, while DirecTV will kick in some time in February.
