The Discovery Center of Springfield's founding director has resigned.
Seventeen-year Executive Director Emily Fox will serve her last day Nov. 23, according to a news release.
Fox is relocating to New Mexico to be closer to family, the release said. She has accepted a position as senior development officer with the University of New Mexico Foundation.
During her tenure at the hands-on interactive science center located at 438 E. St. Louis St., Fox helped establish the facility which comprises 50,000 square feet of gallery space and more than 200 educational exhibits. She also leads a staff of 11 full-time and 18 part-time employees.
According to the release, Fox was instrumental in helping establish policies and procedure as part of a strategic plan completed in July, which outlines organizational goals and objectives for the next three years.
The DCS board of directors will develop a plan of action and a search timeline for a new director during its regularly scheduled meeting Oct. 28.

Public House.
