The food drive lasts through June 10 and culminates at a Springfield Cardinals food drive at home games June 10–11, where Dillons will provide food to encourage donations. That event is sponsored by American Family Insurance.
In its stores, Dillions is offering special pricing on food such as easy-open pasta meals and single-serving soups that will be distributed through Ozark Food Harvest’s children’s backpack feeding program.
Store customers also can donate nonperishable food items at the door, and shoppers can round their sale totals to the next dollar, with proceeds going to the organization.
Dillons is airing public service announcements on their in-store radios and running informational ads about hunger and Ozarks Food Harvest in their in-store sales fliers to promote the food drive. Stores are pushing awareness of Hungerthon 2006, the organization’s annual radio telethon June 2–5 on Alice 95.5.
Last year, the organization distributed 4.5 million pounds of food to its network of 300 hunger relief agencies across 35 counties in southwest Missouri and north-central Arkansas.
