Dillard's to consolidate Battlefield Mall operations in former Sears space

Little Rock, Arkansas-based Dillard's Inc. (NYSE: DDS) is consolidating its Battlefield Mall operations in the west-side anchor space that previously housed Sears.

A fall completion date is scheduled for the project that will see Dillard’s occupy roughly 178,000 square feet that was vacated by Sears in 2020, according to a news release. Springfield Business Journal previously reported on construction work underway at the former Sears space, with city building permits pointing to Dillard's, but company officials with the retailer and Battlefield Mall did not confirm those plans until Thursday afternoon.

With the occupation of the former Sears, Dillard’s will exit its two existing spaces in Battlefield Mall on the north and southeast sides of the shopping center.

“We are proud to announce the latest evolution of Dillard’s at Battlefield Mall,” Dillard’s Senior Vice President Chris Johnson said in the release. “We look forward to building on our longstanding relationship with Springfield-area shoppers by providing a brand-new, one-stop shopping experience and expanded product selection along with the signature style, quality and value our customers have always known."

Battlefield Mall, which is owned by Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Inc. (NYSE: SPG), plans to make announcements regarding the two spaces Dillard’s is exiting at a later date.
