The Department of Homeland Security is drawing criticism for a massive database of American data.
Customs and Border Protection agents have compiled data from cellphones, iPads and computers seized from travelers at the country’s airports, seaports and border crossings. The rapid expansion of the database and the ability of 2,700 CBP officers to access it without a warrant are two details previously not known.
Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Oregon, said in a letter to CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus that the agency is "allowing indiscriminate rifling through Americans’ private records."
