A Colorado developer and its Springfield partner are scheduled to break ground next week on a student housing project near Missouri State University.
Denver-based Beacon Student Housing, which partners locally with developer Tim Roth, is planning a Nov. 13 groundbreaking ceremony for its 100,000-square-foot Beacon Suites development at the corner of Monroe Street and Kimbrough Avenue, according to a news release.
Roth said the development would continue revitalization efforts of the weathered center city area, where last year Beacon Student Housing completed the $2.8 million, 48-unit Beacon Park apartments at 415 E. Monroe St. Beacon Student Housing also operates Beacon Commons, a roughly $2 million, 48-unit complex completed in 2011 at the corner of Madison Street and Kimbrough Avenue.
"The addition of more than 200 more students living in this area will help support nearby businesses," Roth said in the release.
The developers plan to open Beacon Suites in July. The development would comprise two four-story buildings with 1 to 4-bedroom units targeting students of MSU, Drury University and Ozarks Technical Community College. An estimated construction cost wasn't disclosed.
Roth said project architect Buxton Kubik Dodd Architects and general contractor Build LLC representatives would be among those in attendance for the groundbreaking ceremony.
A host of student housing has gone up in recent years, including Bear Village, Deep Elm, The Jefferson and University Suites.[[In-content Ad]]
