Developer seeks $12M incentives package from KC suburb

Posted online
SMPW Fund I LLC, the developer of a proposed 185,000-square-foot shopping center in the heart of Shawnee, Kan., is seeking $12 million in incentives from the Kansas City-area suburb to forward plans.

The Shawnee City Council was slated to discuss the issue Monday evening, and could set a Dec. 22 public hearing to consider creation of a tax increment financing district to support the project.

The developer proposes a $49.35 million shopping center on 26 acres southwest of the Shawnee Mission Parkway and Maurer Road interchange — the only section of the interchange not already home to big-box anchored retail, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.
