Developer reviving Galloway Village project

A Galloway Village project that last year was debated by Springfield City Council members is picking back up this month.

Mitch Jenkins, owner of Elevation Development Co., said he plans to share a "newly redesigned development plan” in a May 13 virtual neighborhood meeting about the stalled mixed-use development project.

Council in June 2019 sided with Jenkins in denying a historic designation at the 3535 S. Lone Pine Ave. project site, across the street from Sequiota Park. Proponents of the designation argued the building is among sites that preserve the historical heritage of the community. Built in 1929, the building once housed Sequiota Store and Treadway’s General Store & Gas Station, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

Jenkins today said plans have been redesigned since council’s decision. He said the new plans adhere to a policy document on development in Galloway Village that was created by city staff, his company and the Galloway Village Neighborhood Association, among others. He declined to provide additional details on the redesigned development prior to the May 13 virtual meeting.

"We are optimistic this new design will be a testament to real estate developers and neighborhood associations everywhere that it is possible to come together for a common good and make a difference in our communities," Jenkins said in an emailed statement.

The policy document includes preservation of significant structures, height and buffer requirements, and increased space for pedestrians and cyclists.
