MDI has tapped into technology, integrating it to help reach and teach younger citizens, namely via a teen section on the MDI Web site, www.insurance.mo.gov.
According to MDI statistics, there were 41,732 hits to the teen section of the department’s Web site last year, up more than 7,700 hits from 2004. Much of the increase is attributed to inserts MDI placed in drivers’ license renewals that promoted the teen site.
“Insurance is one of the most important responsibilities we face as adults. It ensures that should something unexpected happen, we will be financially protected,” Blunt said in an MDI news release. “Educating teens about the importance of insurance coverage helps them understand why this product is needed in so many facets of their lives.”
While auto insurance may be the type of insurance most considered by teens, the Web site also includes information on health insurance and renters’ and property insurance.
A thorough explanation of insurance basics is included for teens to read and use.
The department also offers a link to the same information translated into Spanish.
