The U.S. Department of Energy announced the cancellation of a $4.9 billion loan for the Grain Belt Express transmission line project.
Department officials said "it is not critical for the federal government to have a role in supporting this project."
The Grain Belt Express is designed to transport electricity generated by Kansas wind farms across four states, including Missouri.
