Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick's office gave the Department of Conservation a "good" rating, the second-highest possible score.
"With the level of autonomy the department has over how its funds are used, this audit was conducted to provide accountability and transparency for taxpayers," Fitzpatrick said in a news release. "I am encouraged to see the department is in most regards well managed and following the law, but there are some areas where the department can improve."
The department's Conservation Commission needs to better let the public known when it has workshops that are open, according to the audit. The commission is still in compliance with state transparency laws, according to the release.
