Beacon Student Housing announced today intentions to build a 180-bed apartment complex at the corner of Monroe Street and Kimbrough Avenue near Missouri State University.
The Denver-based developer, which completed the nearby $2.8 million, 48-unit Beacon Park Apartments
last year at 415 E. Monroe St., has committed to starting construction on its new project, Beacon Suites, in December and opening in July 2014, according to a news release.
Beacon Student Housing, which partners locally with developer Tim Roth, also operates Beacon Commons - a roughly $2 million, 48-unit complex completed in 2011 at the corner of Madison Street and Kimbrough Avenue.
“Our first two projects in Springfield confirmed that students want environmentally friendly living options where they don’t have to drive a car or ride a shuttle across town in order to get to class. All of our projects are within walking distance of campus and are on the Bear Line shuttle route,” Beacon Student Housing partner Win Stewart said in the release.
Designed by Buxton Kubik Dodd Creative, Beacon Suites would include four-story structures on the north and south sides of Monroe Street, with 1-, 2- and 4-bedroom apartments.
An estimated construction price was not disclosed, and Stewart could not be reached by deadline.
