Democratic Senators are calling on Donald Trump to keep on the current director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Some GOP lawmakers are asking Trump to remove Richard Cordray because they say he pursued regulatory policies that are costly and contradict a pro-growth agenda.
Democratic lawmakers, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, say the CFPB has returned some $12 billion to 29 million Americans via payments from credit card companies, banks and debt collectors.
"The CFPB is on the verge of finalizing three critical laws," Warren said, referring to rules on debt collection, payday lending and forced arbitration.
