Demolish the dome? STL convention officials contemplate it

Posted online
A plan for renovations to its downtown convention center has the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission considering plans that could include demolition of the Edward Jones football stadium.

Citing the need for an expanded ballroom, as well as additional loading docks and support facilities, the commission said the dome doesn’t provide the contiguous space required for those improvements, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Options from a May committee meeting include demolishing or renovating part of the former St. Louis Rams stadium to add exhibit halls, buying adjacent lots for westward expansion or the construction of a new hotel and parking structure.

City leaders estimated the eventual project would cost more than $500 million.
