Nine Democratic senators urged the Trump administration to block a proposed $26.5 billion deal between T-Mobile and Sprint.
The senators issued a letter to the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Justice ahead of the telecom companies testifying before legislators this week.
“Blocking this proposed combination is necessary to send a strong signal that our enforcement officials are vigorously protecting Americans from harmful anticompetitive behavior,” they wrote. “This merger will turn the clock back, returning Americans to the dark days of heavily consolidated markets and less competition, with all of the resulting harms."
The letter was sent by Sens. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Tom Udall of New Mexico, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey of Massachusetts, Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Cory Booker of New Jersey.
