Delta to own nearly half of Mexico's biggest airline

Delta Air Lines is making a big bet in Mexico.

The company yesterday announced plans to buy an additional 32 percent stake in Aeromexico, the country's oldest airline.

With the purchase, Delta would earn 49 percent of Aeromexico's shares.

"This new investment demonstrates Delta's confidence in Mexico's future and deepens our relationship with Aeromexico," Delta President Ed Bastian said in a statement.
