Defense Department to use more secure email system

The U.S. Department of Defense is bumping up its email security.

By July 2018, the Defense Information Systems Agency plans to put in place stronger encryption on all emails. The DISA is in charge of the Pentagon's email.

The plan follows concerns levied by Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Oregon, that all military email systems did not use STARTTLS, a 15-year-old encryption technology.
