The Missouri Department of Economic Development this week launched an online portal geared toward boosting the state's automotive industry.
The initiative, dubbed the Missouri Automotive Supplier Portal, offers assistance and information for in-state auto suppliers looking to expand or out-of-state suppliers considering moving operations to Missouri, according to a news release.
Among other features, the portal provides information on state and local incentive programs, loans, infrastructure and training grants, and sales tax exemptions.
The release cited the October announcement by Ford Motor Co. to invest $1.1 billion and create 1,600 auto manufacturing jobs at its Claycomo plant as an example of the kind of investment DED is trying to encourage. Two weeks after Ford's announcement, General Motors Co. said it would begin building the redesigned Chevrolet Colorado at its Wentzville plant, a $380 million investment which would create 1,660 jobs.
“With both Ford and GM making historic investments in manufacturing expansion, Missouri offers unprecedented opportunities for automotive suppliers to expand and thrive," Gov. Jay Nixon said in the release. "The new Missouri Automotive Supplier Portal will make it easier for these companies to access the tools, information and resources they need to grow and prosper in the Show-Me State.”
