The departments of Economic Development and Transportation have recognized their symbiotic relationship and have teamed up to determine one’s effect on the other.
The two departments will analyze 20 highway projects each year to determine their impact on the state’s economy, revenue and demographics.
“For example, the research will tell us how many jobs a project might create, and whether the investment will increase the area’s population and attract new businesses,” said Ernie Perry, MoDOT’s research, development and technology director, in a news release.
With the information they gather, the departments will tailor highway projects to boost Missouri’s economy.
Projects will be selected based on MoDOT’s planning framework, which is laid out after collecting input from the public and planning partners.
