December U.S. auto sales miss expectations but 2013 ends high

Reuters reports that although the big four U.S. car makers fell short of sales expectations last month, 2013 will still go down in the books as the best year for auto sales since before the recession.

Overall, 2013 auto sales are predicted to be about 15.6 million vehicles, the best numbers since 2007’s 16.1 million sales. The 2013 increase over 2012 is 8 percent.

Numbers were mixed for the individual auto makers. General Motors and Toyota saw lower sales figures; Ford and Chrysler reported gains.
