Decatur could lose $10M highway overpass if Bass Pro development dies

Posted online
A planned Alabama 20 overpass that city officials view as critical to development of the Decatur-annexed portion of Limestone County will stall if the Bass Pro Shops-anchored Sweetwater project fails, state and city officials said.

"It's a traffic-driven project, so I'm sure we'll be looking ... at whether the development will occur," Les Hopson, preconstruction engineer for the north region of the Alabama Department of Transportation, told Decatur Daily.

Nashville-based developer Genesis USA Development LLC, the developer of Sweetwater, filed a $60 million lawsuit last month against Birmingham attorney Samuel Frazier, the owner of the more than 500-acre plot, accusing him of inflating the value of the land and intending to break off negotiations with the developer after the land value increased.
