Decade-old Branson show announces final season

Posted online

The Hamner Barber Variety Show will end its run after a decade with a final performance slated for Dec. 14.

Dave and Denise Hamner will assume management of the Hamner Barber Theater, with Jim Barber departing to pursue other opportunities. Both parties agreed on the sale of the venue for an undisclosed price. Barber has co-managed and preformed at the theater since 2004.

“I’m at a point where I’m ready for a little change. I’ve been an entertainer for 40 years. For more than 30 years I’ve been involved in broadcasting and marketing and things behind the scenes,” Barber said. “I’m at a stage in my career where I’d like to grow those areas a little deeper in some meaningful way. Branson as a destination continues to grow and evolve and I’d love to be a part of the next big thing down here.”

Barber has plans to work on at some of his side businesses, including Image Works Inc. in Hollister. He has been with the company for 12 years.

Barber said the 642-seat theater will continue to host performances with a revised version of the show. Dave Hamner is also a minister and has used the theater for Sunday service.

Acts featured by the Hamner Barber Variety Show included The Hamners’ magic illusions and Barber’s ventriloquist routine. Tom Mullica’s Tribute to Red Skeleton and The Fair Family will continue on their regular schedules for the rest of the 2013 season. The Hamners have not announced the future of the venue, but plans are expected to be announced soon.
