Deal closes on acquisition of EaglePicher Technologies

Posted online

A recently announced acquisition deal involving EaglePicher Technologies LLC, a St. Louis-based manufacturer with multiple facilities in the Joplin area, has closed following a period of regulatory approvals and third-party consents.

The successful transaction involving Burr Ridge, Illinois-based Tuthill Corp.’s purchase of EaglePicher from Chicago private equity firm GTCR LLC was announced this morning in a news release. Financial terms of the deal, initially reported in early September, were undisclosed in the release.

At its Joplin area facilities, EaglePicher, whose name will not change in the deal, manufactures key technologies for the aviation, defense, maritime and space industries, according to its website. A pair of its products have garnered notice the past two years at Springfield Business Journal’s Coolest Things in the Ozarks event. Its lithium-ion batteries powering NASA’s Perseverance rover on Mars won Best in Show in 2022, followed by an Impact Award at this year’s Coolest Things event for the company’s power module for U.S. Air Force and Navy aircraft emergency ejection seats.

EaglePicher has over 850 employees at its Missouri locations in Joplin and St. Louis, as well as Pittsburg, Kansas; East Greenwich, Rhode Island; and Southbridge, Massachusetts, according to its website. Founded in 1892, Tuthill is a manufacturer of rotating equipment for industries including agriculture, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and construction, according to the release.
