Deadline extended for tax oversight committee applicants

Posted online
Springfield City Council is extending the deadline for citizens to apply for the recently created Citizens' Sales Tax Oversight Committee.

The council's Public Involvement Committee recommended reopening the application process last week to get a broader cross section of citizen applicants, notably women, according to a city news release.

Council member Cindy Rushefsky, chairwoman of the council committee, said only one of the 15 initial applicants was female.

Council will now take applications until 5 p.m. on Monday, March 1. Applications are available at the city Web site or at the Busch Municipal Building, 840 Boonville Ave.

The citizen committee is charged with review and oversight of the 3/4-cent Police and Fire Pension Fund sales tax. The nine-person committee will have at least five city residents and will meet quarterly, and the committee chair will report to council at least once every six months.[[In-content Ad]]
